The Olympics begin tonight at 8:08, on the 8th day of the 8th month of the 8th year! (As if you didn't know that already... But all the eights! The Chinese girl in me is squealing with glee.)

Amid all the controversies leading up to this day and all the complications still surrounding it, something about tradition keeps us from backing off completely. The image of people from various nations coming together with one heart for such a magnificent event just lifts my spirit.
